talkin bout my generation
so i am watching the real world: brooklyn, and i was all excited, except this is just so odd. who are these people? the real world is so lame now. you can tell that everyone worked out really hard before the show because they all have six-packs. boring. mtv tries to be all diverse with the “transwoman” or the “gay dolphin trainer” or the “mormon hipster frat boy...

From the Students for Choice club: Today is the 36th Anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision by the United States Supreme Court, which upholds a woman’s right to choose. Today, President Obama is expected to repeal a foreign policy decision called the Mexico City Policy (aka. Global Gag Rule). Introduced by President Reagan and reinstated by President Bush, this rule prevents federal money...

erections & inaugurations
that’s what today consisted of. clarification: we learned about the male & female sexual response today. also barack obama got sworn in, or something. no big deal. aretha’s headpiece was actually a big deal though. my parents almost moved in next door to her once. that would have been priceless.

death of the jmz →
the mta is thinking of killing off the jmz! that would make me really sad. mallory and i used to look high and low for the z train, which we were sure didn’t actually exist. but one day a good 6 months after our search began she texted me to let me know she saw one. i’m sure it was epic. the z train is like big foot, or michael jackson’s face. you don’t get to see them all...

ayn rand crash course
“For the uninitiated, the moral of the story is simply this: Politicians invariably respond to crises — that in most cases they themselves created — by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs … and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive...

Shamsia’s mother, like nearly all of the adult women in the area, is unable to read or write. “The people who did this to me don’t want women to be educated. They want us to be stupid things.”

“Olmert said Bush’s agreement “embarrassed” Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice because the resolution was one that she had “cooked up, she organized, she formulated, she maneuvered,” according to comments reported by Israel Radio.  “And she was left pretty embarrassed, abstaining on a draft resolution she organized herself,” Olmert added. ...

reassessing hiv prevention in africa →
this is a policy paper from science. it’s pretty interesting, here is the gist: ineffective: hiv testing, treatment of other STIs, microbicides, vaccines, abstinence, condom use. effective: male circumcision, reducing multiple sex partnerships. pretty stark. also, apparently people are all for male circumcision in africa. (see paper for data). anyway, wow. what do you think?

george w bush is a book lover. →
95 books a year is A LOT of books to read. that’s about a book every 4 days. is karl rove for real? let’s say he takes about 6 hours per book (even though some of them are 600 pages long, still..), that is almost 24 full days of reading. that’s crazy. i could say something rude about being a leader of the free world, but it’s nice to know that he reads. i like a man who...
